Why Tuscarora Yacht Club

TYC is a Yacht Club with 54 years of history and tradition. We have been located in Wilson Harbor since the club's inception in 1968. TYC is committed to and very much feels part of the community of Wilson, NY. We feel TYC helps in a small way define what is "Wilson Harbor". Our club is a family club with a growing number of younger families, many of which are second and third generation "TYC'ers". It is a great place to learn and grow not only your seamanship but also your friendships.

The Advantages of TYC

Beautiful facilities. Our clubhouse is of generous size, holding up to 100 people for events, a large fully equipped kitchen, and a warm fireplace. Members enjoy access to the kitchen and the club cookware, and can store food in our two restaurant quality fridges.

Our facilities also feature:

  • Gas dock
  • Pump-Out Station
  • Slips with unmetered power and water
  • Men's and women's showers
  • We also have for sale 24x7 ice, soda, and ice cream
  • Grilling stations
  • An outdoor firepit (for late night marshmallow roasts)

Easy access to your boat. Our clubhouse is located on an island and our circular road lets you park within 20 feet of your boat for ease of loading and unloading.

Child friendly. A single bridge provides access to the island making it easy to keep track of your little bundles of energy. The road has a 5mph speed limit so you don't have to worry about high speed car traffic.

Lake Ontario. Being located on the west end of Lake Ontario we are less susceptible to the common western winds than Lake Erie. Ontario is also deeper than Lake Erie and so the waves are typically lower. Storms on Lake Ontario also give more warning than on Lake Erie so you are less likely to be caught out in weather.

Social events. We have numerous parties during the season where you can get enjoy the friendships you will form here.

Free entertainment. The restaurant across the harbor has bands perform outdoors on Friday and Saturday nights as well as Sunday afternoons. You can come to that side of the island and listen as you like.

Sailboat racing. If you like to race, Wilson Harbor is home to the Wilson Harbor Yacht Racing Association (WHYRA) and a good percentage of racers are TYC members. Even if you aren't a racer, seeing 10-15 boats going around the pins is a beautiful sight.

Reciprocals. Yacht club traditionally form agreements allowing members of other clubs to stay with them at very low rates or even for free (for limited stays). And TYC is within easy reach of many other yacht clubs on Lake Ontario allowing you to take full advantage of your reciprocal rights.

Affordability. The expense for keeping your boat at TYC is very comparable to a marina and often less. Our members perform volunteer maintenance around the club and the savings result in lower slip rates, haul out fees and storage fees. We have no restaurant or bar and therefore naturally have no minimum monthly commitments in this regard.

Easy access to town. The town of Wilson offers many accommodations and it is an easy walk to any of the places listed below:

  • Several restaurants with a variety of atmospheres
  • A grocery store
  • Cookie store
  • A gas station

Seminars. We offer seminars during the season on a variety of subjects, which are either free or very inexpensive ($10 or so).

Stewards. TYC employs stewards during the season that can assist you with various (reasonable) tasks such as bringing your boat into your slip if help is needed.

Friendly Members. Last but not least, our membership is a friendly group who are always ready to welcome new people to our fold, and to lend a helping hand to a slip neighbor.
